Honest Humility

The Act of Humility

Lifting Up

The act of humility simply means to not lift oneself up or to not praise oneself. Genuine humility does not require putting oneself down which often leads to a form of false humility which is a lie. Humility is a prerequisite to all forms of worship and can sum up the fruits of the Spirit as well.

Being Ourselves

One of the effects of humility is not comparing oneself to other people or one's own abilities with that of another. It allows us to stop trying to be who we are not. When we do this, the actual abilities and strengths that we have been given from the Almighty will start to shine through. Other people should recognize these and encourage us to do more in those areas and not in something one is not equipped to do. In this way, we find that being humble provides us with great freedom to be ourselves.

Pride

Pride is the opposite of humility. Pride wants to lift itself up and is jealous, hateful, fighting, impatient, difficult, full of evil, self-seeking, obnoxious, and extreme. It becomes bondage because one is living an image or a lie that is not real.
