Scientific Creationism Theory

by Todd Elder

Creationism in Theology

Creationism is the belief that the entire universe and all of life were created in a special act by a Creator. This is based on the concepts contained within Scripture with an emphasis on the Genesis account of a seven day act of creation. It generally states that the creation was originally made in a good state and that over time is is deteriorating and getting worse. Theories of Creationism generally also include early history to include the destructive events of a worldwide flood during Noah's time and a sudden dispersion of languages and people from the Tower of Babel.

Creationism and the Age of the Universe

The primary theories of Creationism take a literal interpretation of Genesis, known as Young Earth Creationism, and place the age of the universe at approximately 5,900 years. There are some theories of creationism, like theistic evolution, which take a more symbolic view of the book of Genesis and allow for great periods of time up to and including the billions of years generally expected in the theory of evolution.

Creationism as a Science

As a scientific study, theories of Creationism make predictive models and hypotheses of the physical world and universe based on the concepts of a special creation. Experiments and research are then conducted to see if these predictions are found to be true. Often, this research involves exactly the same information and experimental data as collected by evolutionists, however, the interpretation of the data is often found to support Creationism much better than the theory of evolution.

Creationism in the Physical Sciences

According to the theories of Creationism, the process of decay is a constant throughout the known universe. Topics such as heat, magnetism, and the laws of motion demostrate a young universe in which the formative processes are basically finished.

Creationism in the Earth Sciences

Creationism theory states that about 4,500 years ago there was a worldwide flood covering the face of the earth for about one year. This caused many of the large scale geological features on the surface of the earth, made dramatic changes to the atmosphere, and set into place the modern hydrologic cycle. This theory would predict the rapid formation and catastrophic deformation of sedimaentary layers all over the earth.

Creationism in the Biological Sciences

According to the theories of Creationism plants, animals, and mankind were created fully complex and reproducing after their own kind. This allows for variation within a kind, but no transitional forms between kinds. It also predicts the sudden appearance of many well developed languages throughout the Earth.
